PHCC Concert Series Presents:

Kim Hawkey Holiday Concert

December 18

7pm

Free, donations accepted

Back by popular demand.

Kim Hawkey & Band will perform a their unique take on holiday favorites.

Kimberly Hawkey is a singer, dreamer, lyricist and song revivalist based in lower New York State. Floating between New York City, the Hudson Valley and the Catskill Mountains, Kimberly chooses American Song to spread light, love and connection to the wider world. She paints a time-defying soundscape using her crystal-clear voice across familiar and original melodies; at times soaring and whimsical; at times brassy and witty - but rarely without an element of surprise. Supported by a world-class jazz ensemble, Kimberly's vision of Hollywood-esque romance coupled with the spirit of America's truest voices comes to full screen. A modern experience of new and old, audiences can expect to hear a thoughtfully curated blend of vaudeville, hot jazz, folk music, cabaret and contemporary jazz flowing seamlessly through the ages. Kimberly's stage performances are an escapist's dream, allowing the listener to drift into the transformative, and often nostalgic, sea of collective story, sound and song.

Programming for Adults:

One-Time Use 4 Class Trial Pass:  $25 for 4 class punch card.  This is for people who are not members and who are interested in taking group exercise classes.  It will allow them to experience what the CRC classes are about.  Once their four class punches are up, they will need to join the CRC or pay a day pass and class fee to continue participating in classes.  If you have friends, neighbors or strangers that need a gentle hand-holding to get them hooked on fitness, please let them know about this great opportunity.

DXF (Dance/Fitness workout from 5:30 – 6:30 on Wednesday Nights.)  This is a new class that is growing in popularity, but not to worry there is space for you.

Deep Water Cardio Fitness Class is starting Tuesday, October 22.  It takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6 pm.

Adult Swim Lessons are also going to start back up on October 26.  We need five participants to run the class so we have a pre-registration requirement of October 23.  This is for adults who are interested in improving their swimming skills.  We would like to help members move from the doggie paddle to something more effective that will allow them to enjoy swimming as a fitness activity.  If you have some basic swimming skill but would like to continue improving, we can work with you too.

Master Swim Club:  We would like to start a group on Sunday evenings 5 to 6 PM.  This group would be open to members or day use participants.  This “Club” would be self-run.  It is an opportunity for folks who enjoy swimming to gather at a set time, to work out with each other and improve their swimming skills.  We would like to gather names and contact information of people who are interested in participating in this “Club.”  Once we have gathered names, we will designate a start date, so everyone comes on the same day at the same time.  Please call the Rec Center or email aquatics2@catskillrecreationcenter.org if you are interested in participating.

Lifeguard Class:  Starting October 22 and running through November 14.  This class is $300 for a Pool Certification and $350 for a Waterfront Certification.  If you are between the ages of 15 and 25 and would like to take this course, we have grant funding to pay for four people. Also, if you are a Stamford resident we have funding to pay for five lifeguard class fees.

Help Wanted:  The Rec Center is currently seeking certified lifeguards who are reliable, have an excellent work ethic, a friendly demeanor and are team players.  We need a person who enjoys getting up and working early (5:30 am) in the morning and has availability both early morning and mid-day. Generally these shift openings are Monday through Friday.  Right now we just need reliable substitutes who do not need lots of hours but are willing to step in at a moment’s notice.  If you are interested but not yet certified, please consider taking the lifeguarding certification class starting October 22.

Programming for Youth:

Pumpkin Painting Party:  This will be our fourth annual Pumpkin Painting event.  It will take place Sunday, October 27 from 3 to 6 PM.  Youth should come decked out in costumes.  We will have pumpkins to paint, fun activities and games, snacks to eat and more.  We are asking for a suggested donation of $5 per family.  Help Needed:  To make this event great for our youth and families, we are seeking volunteers to help run the different booths and people to make healthy and fun snacks.  If you want to help make this event a smashing success, please contact becky@catskillrecreationcenter.org.

After School Dance Program:  We have just started a youth dance program that takes place on Wednesdays 4:15 – 5:15.  We have eight youth participating now who are loving it.  More youth are welcome to join.  We are currently running a seven-week session.  Contact the Rec Center to find out more information.

Youth Swim Club:  This is for any youth who is interested in building stamina and improving swimming skills.  Participants must be able to pass the CRC deep end test. The drop in price for this class is $7.50 per class.

Santa’s Sunken Treasure Swimming Extravaganza:  This event takes place December 14 from 3 to 6.  If you own a business and would like to donate a raffle prize, please let Rose know.  Her email is aquatics2@catskillrecreationcenter.org.  If you would like to support the Rec Center by purchasing a raffle ticket, please see the Front Desk staff.  Last year we had lots of lovely raffle prizes.  All funds raised will go towards the Catskill Recreation Center.  If you would like to volunteer to provide a festive snack for this event please, let Rose know that as well.

Family Open Swim:  Please remember that we have Family Open Swim scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6 – 7:45pm.  There is a $10 fee for the whole nonmember family to swim.  If you know people who are not members of the Recreation Center that might enjoy an affordable family foray, please let them know about this option.
