6th Annual Quarter Action

In conjunction with Autism Awareness Month we have planned the 6th Annual Quarter Auction, we have planned the 6th Annual Quarter Auction to take place on Saturday, April 4th, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Adams-Friendship High School.

All proceeds from this event benefit our Autism / Sensory and Resource program services and participants.

North Star Services, Inc. is a *non-profit 501(c)4 social welfare organization. Established in 1999, it has been the mission of North Star Services to cultivate and develop specific program services for developmentally and physically disabled adults and children within the Adams-Friendship community. Over the past several years we have collaborated with parents and professionals within the community on the rising need for services for individuals on the Autism Spectrum and those with Neurological conditions.

We rely heavily on the generosity of local individuals and local business support in order to fulfill the monetary needs that ensure the continuation of these services to our community. Therefore, monetary donations or Raffle Baskets/Items for the Quarter Auction are most appreciated.

The expenses associated with the development of sensory program services are greater than one might think. With new State and Federal funding changes we are working to expand much needed services and programming in our area. The continued education/training for staff, supplies, sensory materials and event organization for ongoing awareness are just several of the opportunities that sustained funding will provide. Additionally, these funds will assist local families whose financial limitations may otherwise prohibit them from participating in program services.

If you would like to donate to this special event, contact us by March 27th or call us at any time. We have also sent a Quarter Auction Flyer and would greatly appreciate it if you could display it in a conspicuous area of your business. Events such as this could not be successful without the commitment and dedication of our amazing community members.

If you have questions or would like a Brochure of our Sensory Program Services, please contact us at any time.

Acrylic Pour Painting

Acrylic pour painting combines colors intro abstract cell-like patterns on the canvas to create unique artwork without the use of paintbrushes or pallet knives. Students will learn how to mix color, use pouring medium, the importance of consistency, and how colors interact. Different pouring techniques will be demonstrated. Students will choose which style they would like to do for their own personal project. At the end of the class, each student will have their own one-of-a-kind finished work of art to enjoy. It takes several days for the paint to dry, so pieces may need to remain on campus for a few days. This three-hour class is great for beginners and anyone interested in trying a new painting technique; all materials will be provided.

De-escalation, Situational Awareness, and Proactive Crisis Response in Today's World

Whether you're at home, going to school, working at a job, attending church, enjoying your time off, or anything in between, this workshop will give you tools to better deal with safety and security issues such as workplace violence, disorderly subjects, people with alcohol or controlled substance problems, active threats, and a multitude of other potential crisis situations. Being situationally aware and de-escalating a troubling predicament are topics explored in an effort to be better prepared to handle potential crises before they start, or as soon as possible after they begin. Some of the other discussion topics include active listening, paying attention to what's important, having a proactive and "survivor" mindset, response options, awareness of things that could be used as defensive and offensive weapons, and thinking "outside the box".
