JB Blast Fireworks

Enjoy music under the stars in the Veterans Memorial Amphitheater in Jefferson Barracks Park and brilliant fireworks display to celebrate our country's birth. Concessions will be available. Admission is FREE.

Throw Back Thursday: Free Children's History Programs

Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site will offer free hands-on history programs for children and their families on Thursday mornings in the summer. Programs will be offered May 30– August 8 from 10 – 11:30 am. Children will be engaged in a variety of activities related to the people who lived at White Haven in the 19th century or to the National Park Service. Program topics will vary each week. Activities are most appropriate for ages 5 and up, but younger siblings will certainly find something fun to do as well. Reservations are required. Call 314-842-1867 ext. 230.

Ambassadors are official representatives of the Affton Chamber that serve as volunteers on the “front-line” of our meetings & events. Help educate prospective members & guests, welcome new members, and facilitate networking. Committee attends Affton Chamber events (meetings, ribbon cuttings, social hours, etc.) and facilitates Key to the 123 Seminar.

Concert in the Park - U City Summer Band

Concerts at the Park
A free concert is a great way to enjoy the summer. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site for live music on select Thursday evenings. Concerts begin at 7 pm and last about one hour.

The UCity Summer Band presents family-friendly concerts, performing light classics, marches, patriotic music, show tunes, transcriptions, popular music, jazz, and original music for band. Over 90 volunteer musicians make up the complete roster of the UCity Summer Band with 60-70 performing at each concert. The band has been under the direction of Tom Poshak since 2003.

Save the date for additional concert on August 15.

Bike Through History

Every 3rd Saturday (April - September) you can join a National Park Service Ranger on a 4-mile round trip bike ride along Grant's Trail. The trip begins at Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site and along the way to Sappington House the park ranger will describe points of interest. The free bike trip includes a tour of the Sappington Home. Ride leaves at 10 am and lasts approximately two hours. All ages are welcomed but reservations are required. Call 314-842-1867 ext. 230.

Grant Death Commemoration Ceremony

The Sons of Union Veterans Ulysses S. Grant Camp #68, in partnership with the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, will be performing a death commemoration ceremony to mark the 134th anniversary of President Grant’s passing. The program will begin at 10 am, which will include speeches, a wreath laying ceremony, and a 21-gun salute. At 11 am there will be a program in the park’s theater delivered by Dr. Don Palmer who is a former Commander-in-Chief of the Sons of Union Veterans, and member of the Ulysses S. Grant Camp #68. Dr. Palmer’s program is titled: “Grant’s Grand Strategy to Win the Civil War.”

"My Dear Julia" - A Radio Style Play on Romance of Ulysses S. Grant and Julia Dent Grant

The play, written by local historian NiNi Harris, is approximately 40 minutes in length. It is fashioned in the style of plays about events in St. Louis history that were presented on local stations during the early days of radio. Reservations are required. Call 314-842-1867 ext. 230.

Run Through History

Join a park ranger on a 90-minute, 3 mile relaxing run from Ulysses S. Grant’s home, White Haven, to St. Paul’s Cemetery and back. Slamapalooza 2019

Join us in the Grove at the Holy Cross Academy /St. John Paul II campus for Mass in the Grass at 4:00 p.m. followed by musical entertainment, food, and fun until 10:00 p.m. 

The event is FREE and open to the public. Bring a chair.
Money raised from the sale of food, t-shirts, raffles, and other activities will benefit the James J. Slama Scholarship Foundation. This foundation provides high school scholarships to students from St. John Paul II Parish and Holy Cross Academy.

Annual Golf Tournament -- POSTPONED


AFFTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE GOLF TOURNAMENT
RESCHEDULED TO JULY 30, 2019 DUE TO FLOODING AT COURSE

 
Due to the historic flooding of the Meramec River, the Affton Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament that was scheduled for Tuesday, June 11th at Tapawingo National Golf Club has been rescheduled. The course is currently closed to tournaments until further notice.

In working with the staff at Tapawingo to secure a new date, we are confident that rescheduling to Tuesday, July 30 will allow the courses to be in top condition.

Thanks to our sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and members for your patience and commitment to this annual event and hope that you will be able to join us on July 30th.
