The 26th annual World Human powered Speed Challenge (WHPSC) will be held on Sept. 7-13, 2025.  The course is on State Route 305 south of Battle Mountan, NV.

The fastest humans from around the world including many collegiate teams and their pedal-powered vehicles, will attempt to break the current men's land speed record of 89.59 mph set in 2016 by Todd Reichert of team, Aerovelo, of Torento, Canada.  This year, the world's second fastest rider at 86.39 mph, Francois Pervis of Team IUT Annecy Altair, France will attempt to break Todd's record.

Lizanne Wilmot of the MQ Speed Team from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia is focused on breaking the records she set last year.  At the 2024 WHPSC, Lizanne achieved a world record speed of 60.17 mph in her 3-wheel vehicle (women's multi-track category).

SR305 just south of town possess the unique features necessary for these highly engineered pedaled vehicles to achieve top speeds.  The 4,619 ft (1,408 m) altitude road allows riders an acceleration zone of 5 mines, enabling them to reach their maximum velocity before being timed over a 200meter distance.

Per the rules of the International Human Powered Vehicle Association (IHPVA), the world record keeping and sanctioning body for this sport, the maximum grade allowed cannot exceed 2/3 of 1 percent over the entire course, in homage to the first record attempts held in the early 70's on the Irwindale speedway.  The high altitude and arrow straight section of pavement has drawn athletes worldwide to test their speed-bike designs and sprinting abilities since 2000.

The Lander County Convention & Tourism Auithority and the IHPVA were motivated 7 years ago to build an independent permanent track/facility in BAttle Mountain,  The Senate Lands bill S.1411 was approved December of 2023.  The Buffalo Valley Multi Use Track land was given to create a multi-use purpose facility.  It includes human power events, World record attempts and other like-minded endeavors.  The IHPVA and Lander County are currently seeking partnerships to make this dream facility into reality. 

Spectators are welcome to this free event each morning from 7:00-10:00 and each evening from 5:30-7:00.  Please some at least 1/2 hour early to make sure you don't get caught in the roadblock.  Grandstands are located at the timing trap for maximum speen thrills or, for those curious about the riders and vechiled, you can wait in the "catch" area to see the riders assisted from their fully enclosed speed-bikes.

Our pantry offers a wide variety of non-perishable food items, including canned goods, grains, pasta, and other staple foods. Additionally, we provide fresh produce when available, as well as hygiene products such as soap, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has access to the basic necessities for a healthy and dignified life.
In addition to food assistance, our distribution program also offers gently used clothing for men, women, and children. Come join Joy-Lynn to catch up on projects you're itchin' to finish!  There are a few catches: 1. You must bring something that Joy-Lynn has taught- it cannot be a project from another teacher or something she's never taught before. 2. We do need to know what projects you plan on bringing in advance so that Joy-Lynn can be prepared in what she need to help you with. 3. Our food and clothes pantry/distribution program is dedicated to providing essential items to individuals and families in need within our community. We understand the importance of access to nutritious food and clean clothing, and strive to alleviate the burden of financial hardship for those facing difficult circumstances.
Our pantry offers a wide variety of non-perishable food items, including canned goods, grains, pasta, and other staple foods. Additionally, we provide fresh produce when available, as well as hygiene products such as soap, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has access to the basic necessities for a healthy and dignified life.
In addition to food assistance, our distribution program also offers gently used clothing for men, women, and children. We believe that having appropriate attire can boost self-esteem and confidence, especially during job interviews or important events. Our selection includes seasonal clothing items such as coats in winter and sandals in summer.
