Howard County Dementia Caregiver Support Group meeting

The Howard County Dementia Caregiver Support Group meets the first and third Friday of every month at 1:30pm at the Cresco Public Library Program Room (downstairs).

Cresco Public Library is handicap-accessible.

The Howard County Dementia Caregiver Support Group is available for people to build a support system with people who understand the challenges inherent in dementia care-giving. The Alzheimer's Association caregiver support groups, conducted by trained facilitators, are a safe place for caregivers, family and friends of people with dementia to develop a support system, exchange practical information on care-giving challenges and possible solutions, talk through issues and ways of coping, share feelings, needs and concerns, and learn about community resources.

This program is presented by the Alzheimer's Association East Central Iowa Chapter. For more information, please contact their office at: 319-294-9699.

Elfis and Priscilla, our Elves on the Shelf, have returned to Cresco Public Library from the North Pole just in time for the holidays! Children may visit the library every day between Dec. 1-22 and search for the Elves on the Shelf. If they find them, do not touch them, or they will lose their special powers. Instead, tell a librarian and win a prize. The elves will be hiding in a new place every day on the main floor of the library.

Minnesota/Iowa Permit To Carry / Concealed Carry Certification Class

Todd Stephenson, a Certified NRA Instructor with over 30 years of firearms experience, will be holding a MINNESOTA AND IOWA Concealed Carry class on December 8th, 2018 at the Cresco Wildlife Club on the Howard County Fairgrounds in Cresco.  This approximately ten-hour class is one of the MOST COMPLETE Minnesota and Iowa concealed carry training programs offered.

Pre-registration will begin at 8:30am, and class will begin promptly at 9:00am.  Class should conclude by 6:00pm.  You must be 21 or older the day of the class to receive a certificate.  Students will be required to qualify using .22LR firearms and ammunition provided by the instructor.  Eye and hearing protection will also be provided.

The fee for this class is $125.00 and you MUST pre-register in person at Outdoors & More, Inc. in Cresco.  With your class fee paid, you will be provided with a one-year Single membership to the Cresco Wildlife Club.  If you are already a member of the Wildlife Club, you will be provided with a one-year single membership extension (upgrades to a FAMILY membership may be made for an additional $5.00 fee).

Strategies and ideas for toilet training, discipline, and guidance are always discussed. Older siblings in the family are always welcome as well. Battle of Waterloo Wrestling

The Battle of Waterloo (BOW) Wrestling Tournament is a two-day (December 14-15), 32 team tournament that brings in teams from 18 different counties outside of Black Hawk County. The event includes up to 830 wrestlers, coaches and cheerleaders. Four standard 8-team brackets wrestle Friday determining team's standing for the round-robin championship brackets on Saturday. This event is hosted by East and West High School.

Effective November 15th through April 15th is the official snow removal parking notice:
On odd number calendar days beginning at 5pm parking only on the odd numbered side of the street or avenue(East side or South side) until 5pm the next day.
On even number calendar days beginning at 5pm parking only on the even numbered side of the street or avenue (West side or North side) until 5pm on the next day.
This parking will be enforced throughout the day, regardless of whether it snows or does not snow until April 15th.
