Kids in the Kitchen Frosting Cupcakes


Hey kids, wanna decorate some fun cupcakes? It’s not as hard as you might think! With a little direction, a few tips and a bit of practice with a pastry bag, your decorated cupcakes will rival the fancy ones at the bakery. Grab an apron, roll up your sleeves and get ready to get your hands on some cupcakes! The class is open to 7-14-year-old kids.
The class is on Tuesday, March 3rd from 3:45-5:30pm at NICC Cresco Center. The cost is $30 and participants are asked to register through NICC Cresco Center, 563.547.3355.

Howard County Dementia Caregiver Support Group meeting

The Howard County Dementia Caregiver Support Group meets the first and third Friday of every month at 1:30pm at the Cresco Public Library Program Room (downstairs).

Cresco Public Library is handicap-accessible.

The Howard County Dementia Caregiver Support Group is available for people to build a support system with people who understand the challenges inherent in dementia care-giving. The Alzheimer's Association caregiver support groups, conducted by trained facilitators, are a safe place for caregivers, family and friends of people with dementia to develop a support system, exchange practical information on care-giving challenges and possible solutions, talk through issues and ways of coping, share feelings, needs and concerns, and learn about community resources.

This program is presented by the Alzheimer's Association East Central Iowa Chapter. For more information, please contact their office at: 319-294-9699.

Battle of the Border

Friday, March 6th is the annual Border Battle hosted by the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame inside the Crestwood High School Gymnasium.  Come watch the best high school senior wrestlers from northern Iowa battle against the best from southern Minnesota. Don't have a lot of time but still want to cook healthier meals?  We get it.  Healthy cooking begins with knowing how the food you are putting into your body affects it and then making small changes that will help you feel more energized and ready for each day. We'll start with an on-site tour of a grocery store to introduce you to some healthy cooking/food choices.  Then, each session as we cook a healthy homemade meal, you will learn about the health benefits of the selected ingredients and get to taste the results of your work!  A supply fee is due to the instructor at each session of the class.
Three classes, March 17, 24, and 31 at Crestwood High School from 6-7:30pm. The cost is $45 and all participants are asked to register through NICC Cresco Center, 563.547.3355.

Learn how to protect your savings from scams and fraud on March 23 in Cresco

Con artists target people age 60 and older swindling more than 7 million Americans out of almost $3 billion each year. Northeast RSVP and the Iowa Insurance Division will be presenting an “Iowa Fraud Fighters” seminar on Monday, March 23, 1:30 PM at the Cresco Public Library.

The free hour-long seminar teaches consumers how to shield their savings from scammers and fraudulent investment offers. Presenters will share tips on recognizing and reporting fraud, explain how to use the “Double-check before you invest” program, and share stories of people who have lost their life savings to fraud.

Iowa Fraud Fighter seminars are being presented by NEI RSVP volunteers with assistance from local sponsors. Northeast Iowa RSVP matches volunteers age 55 and up with opportunities to serve at non-profits in Allamakee, Howard and Winneshiek counties. The March 23 seminar is co-sponsored by Cresco Public Library.
