Siouxland and Tri-State Agricultural Lenders Seminars

Due to COVID-19 concerns, The Siouxland and Tri-State Agricultural Lenders Seminars have been combined into one virtual seminar set for Tuesday, November 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lenders who serve agricultural clients - especially those who work with dairymen across the Upper Midwest - are encouraged to attend as the seminar will focus on market outlooks for livestock, grains and dairy, plus include a focus on exports and trade issues.

"The agenda this year features well-known presenters who are leading the national discussion in their topic area," said Fred Hall and Larry Tranel, dairy field specialists with Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach. "Understanding the current market trends and risks is a necessary part of farm management assistance. Lenders and consultants working with dairymen have the additional necessity of understanding a complex system of milk marketing, labor inputs and federal policy implications."

The list of nationally recognized presenters includes:
10 a.m. - Mike North - President, Commodity Risk Management Group (CRMG), Platteville; presenting on marketing opportunities from a global view.
11 a.m. - Dr. Wendong Zhang, Assistant Professor, Agricultural Economist, Iowa State University; presenting on issues of importance in exporting to China.
12 noon - Break
1 p.m. - Dr. Mark Stephenson, Director of Dairy Policy Analysis, University of Wisconsin, Madison; presenting a dairy market update.
2 p.m. - Dr. Chad Hart, Professor of Economics, Crop Market Specialist and Extension Economist, Iowa State University; presenting a commodity market update.

"These seminars have proven valuable to lenders and financial advisors across the Upper Midwest as a local source for current information which they can use as they help producers manage risk," Hall said.

The registration fee has been reduced to $50 per person.

Register online at https://form.jotform.com/4Hregion1/2020-lenders-seminar. Or, if you prefer to register by mail, send a check, name and email address to the ISU Extension and Outreach office in Sioux County (400 Central Ave. NW, Suite 700, Orange City, IA 51041) or Dubuque County (14858 West Ridge Lane, Dubuque, IA 52008). A confirmation email with the seminar link will be sent to you.

For more information, contact Larry Tranel at 563-583-6496, tranel@iastate.edu or Fred M. Hall at 712-737-4230, fredhall@iastate.edu.

Vesterheim's Barnetimen (Children's Hour) Continues Online in November

Vesterheim's Barnetimen (Children's Hour) Continues Online in November   DECORAH, Iowa — Get ready for winter at Barnetimen (Children’s Hour) with Vesterheim, the National Norwegian-American Museum and Folk Art School.

Preschoolers and their caregivers are invited to discover the museum's collection in a new video on Tuesday, November 17, from 10-10:30 a.m. on Vesterheim’s Facebook page and YouTube Channel. The video will be available for later viewing on Vesterheim's YouTube Channel. Connect with Jennifer Kovarik, Vesterheim’s Youth Educator, to explore objects in the museum’s collection and make art inspired by those objects. This month’s theme will focus on cold weather clothing. “Norwegians have a saying that there is no bad weather, only bad clothing!” Kovarik said. “In the Northern Hemisphere, the weather is getting colder now and it is time to put on warmer clothing,” she continued. During the session, explore Vesterheim's collection of winter clothing, like warm sweaters, caps, and mittens. Inspired by these objects, decorate a sweater, cap, or mittens using colors, patterns, and texture. A list of materials and instructions for the make-at-home art project will be available before and after the program at vesterheim.org/program/barnetimen-childrens-hour-11-2020.

Barnetimen programs are geared toward 3 - 5 year olds, but all ages are welcome, and new programs are available online the third Tuesday of the month, September through April, at 10 a.m. This program is sponsored by the United States Regional Arts Resilience Fund Phase 1, an initiative of Arts Midwest and its peer United States Regional Arts Organizations made possible by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; with additional support from local sponsors David and Brenda Carlson and Norwegian Mutual Insurance Association.

Vesterheim, the National Norwegian-American Museum and Folk Art School, welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in the conversation of the American immigrant journey through the lens of the Norwegian-American experience. Vesterheim offers innovative and interactive exhibits, classes, and programs, both at the dynamic campus and park in scenic Decorah, Iowa, and online at vesterheim.org and Vesterheim social media. For more information on exhibits, classes, programs, tours, membership opportunities, and ways to donate and volunteer, connect at vesterheim.org, (563) 382-9681, and Vesterheim, 502 W.
