Winneshiek Energy 10th Anniversary Celebration

As the days grow shorter, we’d like to share some warmth and light with you! The Winneshiek Energy District is on the eve of it’s 10th anniversary and thanks to support from our members, we have made an incredible impact in our community:
Over 350 solar installations in Winneshiek County Over
1,100 low-income and disadvantaged households through free energy efficiency upgrades installed by our Green Iowa AmeriCorps team
A local, grassroots model for clean energy that others are replicating

As a staff member, I’m proud of these accomplishments and many more. I’m reaching out to invite you to an online “happy hour” reception to learn more about the work of the Winneshiek District and our goals for the years ahead. We’ll begin with some introductions and a brief 15-minute presentation by our dedicated staff. The rest of the time will be a chance to pose questions, share ideas, and to discuss how we can continue to promote a clean energy future in our county and throughout Iowa. Will you join us?

Join us on one of three weeknights: December 8, 9, and 10 from 5-6 PM. It will be conducted via Zoom Video Conferencing, which includes a dial-in number as well. Please use this form to save your spot and I’ll send you a link to the Zoom link a day or so before the online reception. For those within 10 miles of Decorah, we'll also deliver some treats to your door prior to the reception! I look forward to reconnecting with you this week. Thank you for your ongoing support of our work. Let me know if you have any concerns or questions.

Online - Vesterheim's Barentimen (Children's Hour)

DECORAH, Iowa — Celebrate the winter holidays Norwegian-style during Barnetimen (Children’s Hour) with Vesterheim, the National Norwegian-American Museum and Folk Art School. Preschoolers and their caregivers are invited to connect online with Jennifer Kovarik, Vesterheim’s Youth Educator, to explore objects and stories in the museum’s collection and make art inspired by those objects.

A new video will be released on Tuesday, December 15, from 10-10:30 a.m. on Vesterheim’s Facebook page and YouTube Channel. The video will be available for later viewing on Vesterheim's YouTube Channel.
“This month’s theme will focus on Norwegian Christmas traditions. Explore these holiday traditions – how they might be the same as yours or different – with a tour of Vesterheim's own Christmas tree,” Kovarik said. “Then learn how to make a simple paper ornament that you can use to decorate your home or share with someone any time of the year,” she added.

A list of materials and instructions for the make-at-home art project is available before and after the program at vesterheim.org/program/barnetimen-childrens-hour-12-2020.

Barnetimen programs are geared toward 3 - 5 year olds, but all ages are welcome, and new programs are available online the third Tuesday of the month, September through April, at 10 a.m.

This program is sponsored by the United States Regional Arts Resilience Fund Phase 1, an initiative of Arts Midwest and its peer United States Regional Arts Organizations made possible by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; with additional support from local sponsors David and Brenda Carlson and Norwegian Mutual Insurance Association.

Vesterheim, the National Norwegian-American Museum and Folk Art School, welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in the conversation of the American immigrant journey through the lens of the Norwegian-American experience. Vesterheim offers innovative and interactive exhibits, classes, and programs, both at the dynamic campus and park in scenic Decorah, Iowa, and online at vesterheim.org and Vesterheim social media. For more information on exhibits, classes, programs, tours, membership opportunities, and ways to donate and volunteer, connect at vesterheim.org, (563) 382-9681, and Vesterheim, 502 W. Water St., P.O. Box 379, Decorah, IA, 52101-0379.
