Wilder than Wild: Fire, Forests, and the Future
Wilder Than Wild: Fire, Forest, and the Future
The Plumas County Fire Safe Council and the Graeagle Fire Protection District Firewise Community are hosting a free screening of the documentary Wilder Than Wild on Tuesday, April 2nd at 6:30 at the Graeagle Fire Station Meeting Room.
Four years in the making, Wilder than Wild: Fire, Forests, and the Future is a documentary that reveals how fire suppression and climate change have exposed Western forests to large, high severity wildfires, while greenhouse gases released from these fires contribute to global warming. This vicious cycle jeopardizes our forests and affects us all with extreme weather and more wildfires, some of which are now entering highly populated wildland-urban areas.
A panel of representatives from the US Forest Service, Graeagle Fire, CAL FIRE, Plumas County Fire Prevention, and a Fire and Forest Ecologist will be available following this one-hour documentary to answer questions generated by the film and any other pertinent questions.
This screening is part of a larger effort to engage communities in conversations about the future of wildfire and what actions can be done to prepare our communities to be more fire resilient. To further these efforts, Graeagle Fire Protection District Firewise Community now has active committees in the communities of Whitehawk Ranch, Valley Ranch, Mohawk Meadows, and Graeagle. You will be hearing more about the importance of building community awareness activities in each of our communities during the coming months.
