Strong Women of Wallace, Lecture on May Hutton by Ms Vicki Allmann

Please join us at the NPR Depot Museum in Wallace for another Strong Women of Wallace lecture. Thursday, September 20 at 6:00 p.m. Ms Vicki Allmann will entertain and educate us about the life and times of Mrs. May Arkwright Hutton, a woman of incredible courage in the early days of the Coeur d’Alene Mining District.
I have a special interest in May Arkwright Hutton. I admire her grit, her tenacity and her unfailing humor. She was an outspoken woman with little formal education, but with her feisty and compassionate nature, managed to become one of the most iconic women in Idaho and Washington history. In telling May's story I feel a connection to a woman who paved the way for women's rights. With her unconventional early years, her involvement in the mining wars of the 1890's and the philanthropic use of her vast fortune...her story is a pleasure to tell.”--Vicki Allmann
It is a pleasure to host Ms Allmann at anytime in the community. Ms Allmann makes the character come alive with the intense research she has compiled about the life and topics in Hutton’s life. There are many phases of Mrs Hutton’s life to explore, this evening we will remember the early years in the mining camps of Eagle, Murray and Wallace. We will remember the hard work at the Hercules Mine before the Huttons and others “struck it rich”.
Strong Women of Wallace is an exhibit for the 2018 season dedicated to the women who helped create this sustainable community and society in the Coeur d’Alene Mining District. Strong Women of Wallace is sponsored in part by the Idaho Humanities Council, the NP Depot Foundation, Inc and the NPR Depot Museum and volunteers.
