Movie: "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World"

From DreamWorks Animation comes the highly anticipated culmination of one of the most popular animated franchises in film history, How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. What began as an unlikely friendship between an adolescent Viking and a fearsome Night Fury dragon has become an epic trilogy spanning their lives. In this next chapter, Hiccup and Toothless will finally discover their true destinies: the village chief as ruler of Berk alongside Astrid, and the dragon as leader of his own kind. As both ascend, the darkest threat they’ve yet faced—as well as the appearance of a female Night Fury—will test the bonds of their relationship like never before.

This 104 minute Animated Family Friendly Comic Adventure is Rated PG adventure action and some mild rude humor.

Movie: "Dumbo"

From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, the all-new grand live-action adventure Dumbo expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.

This 115 minute Family Friendly Film is Rated PG for peril/action, some thematic elements, and brief mild language.

27th Annual Truckee Home and Building Show

Truckee Home and Building Show
For 27 years, we’ve been bringing together everything you need to build, remodel, redecorate, and landscape your mountain home. Designed for local residents and Tahoe vacation homeowners, the home show will introduce you to tons of innovative ways you can improve your home. Kitchen Design and Remodeling is the theme of the Truckee Home Show this year!

KITCHENS – KITCHENS – AND MORE KITCHENS:
Kitchen Design and Remodeling is the theme of the Truckee Home Show this year!

About the Show:  For 27 years, we’ve been bringing together everything you need to build, remodel, redecorate, and landscape your mountain home. Designed for local residents and Tahoe vacation homeowners, the home show will introduce you to tons of innovative ways you can improve your home and what better way than to start with the kitchen!

At the Home Show, You’ll Discover:

● NEW This Year! - elevation 6225: We’re proud to have remodeling firm, elevation 6225, as a first-time Home Show Sponsor … and we’re super-excited about their smoking-hot kitchen exhibit! They’ll have a complete luxury kitchen right in their booth, so local homeowners can actually see and feel a high-end Wolf stove and other top-of-the-line appliances. They’ll also offer a Virtual Reality (VR) 360-degree tour of one of the homes they’ve remodeled, as well as comfy seating, so you can kick back and relax while watching a quick video about their company. We promise you don’t want to miss this display!

● Expanded Display:  Always hosting one of the favorite exhibits at the Show, custom cabinet maker, Interior Wood Design has upped the ante this year.  Now as a Home Show Sponsor they are doubling their presentation to four magnificent, full-kitchen cabinet displays, so you can let your imagination go wild with ideas for your own home.  Their design team and even a granite fabricator will be on hand to answer questions and offer inspiration.

● Energy Efficient Solutions: Don’t remain in the dark about energy & water efficiency. Our long-time sponsor, Truckee Donner Public Utility District, will be on hand to answer questions about efficiency in your kitchen and throughout the home. Even better, stop by their display to score a number of FREE energy-saving devices!

● Home Repairs:  The Sierras had record breaking snow falls this year.  With this much snow on our homes it is more that records that got broken.  At the Home Show you can find the repair specialist that you need to get you back on track, from a handyman to a building contractor, you will be able to meet them in person and discuss your project.

● Tiny Homes:  Affordable housing in the Tahoe/Truckee area has been a major concern for some time.  Learn more about solutions to our housing crisis and tour tiny homes right at the Home Show.

● Home Technology: From the best high-tech home automation system to the greenest technology for low-voltage snow melt systems, find out all your Tahoe high-tech options, right here at our local home show…

● Landscaping Tips: With plenty of snowfall and lots of sunshine, landscaping in the Sierra climate is nothing like landscaping anywhere else in California. Get tips for which trees, shrubs, and flowers fare best, so the outside of your home has maximum curb appeal!

● Home Décor Ideas: If you’re looking to switch up the look of your home, you definitely don’t want to miss the Home Show. During it, you’ll get plenty of inspiration for redoing your family room, kitchen, bathroom, master bedroom, and more!  On display you will find so many “must have” decorating accessories and furnishings to bring the mountain charm to your home.

● Expert Advice: Talk to specialists face-to-face in construction, painting, home design, pest control, remodeling, plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling, green building, solar, kitchen, and baths.

● Electrical Safety Presentations: What you don’t know could kill you!  There are thousands of electrical injuries and deaths every year in the U.S. and you can help protect your self and your family with a little bit of knowledge offered at the Home Show each year.  Come to one of the eight Truckee Donner PUD “Learn or Burn” electrical safety presentations and learn how to be safe around electricity.  Bring you whole family.  You will be surprised by what you learn.

● And Much, Much More: We’ll also have displays for garage doors, decking, roofing, bear bins, siding, gutters, counter-tops, insulation, wood-stoves, window coverings, closet systems, sun-rooms, spas, windows, doors and even hidden dog fences! If you can dream it for your home, you’ll find it here at Truckee’s very own home show.

Understanding Alzheimer's and Dementia Workshop

New program explains basics of Alzheimer’s and dementia

In the United States alone, more than 5 million individuals are living with Alzheimer’s and 16 million are serving as their unpaid caregivers. The disease is a global crisis that impacts numerous families right here in our community. However, no one has to face this disease alone or without information.

The Alzheimer’s Association® has created an education program covering the basics of Alzheimer’s and dementia to provide a general overview for people who are facing a diagnosis as well as those who wish to be informed.

The free Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia program:

  • Explores the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

  • Examines what happens in a brain affected by Alzheimer’s.

  • Details the risk factors for and three general stages of the disease.

  • Identifies FDA-approved treatments available to treat some symptoms.

  • Looks ahead to what’s on the horizon for Alzheimer’s research.

  • Offers helpful Alzheimer’s Association resources
