Artist's Opening Reception Featuring Tina Thorman

Tina Thorman, also known as Trixie Hollyhox, is originally from the Sacramento area, where she was a first grade teacher, and taught after-school art and engineering classes, as well as private art lessons.

When she moved to Plumas County in 2015, she began working with the West End Theatre and The Magic Beanstalk Players drama programs to continue teaching and painting the sets for community productions. She became a full time artist in July, 2020 and created Hollyhox Painting, specializing in murals, mural squares, acrylic paintings, animal portraits, and paint sessions.

She has found a niche in painting unusual surfaces, from cow skulls and saw blades, to propane tanks and large boulders. As a self-taught artist, she is willing to learn and take on new challenges. When people ask “Can you do that?” her answer is “I can paint anything you can imagine!”
Tina’s medium of choice is acrylic paint, and her style has been described as “magical realism,” with whimsical touches and bright colors that spark the viewer’s imagination. She enjoys capturing an animal’s spirit in its eyes, especially when creating pet portraits. Her two favorite themes are fantasy and landscape--when both are in one painting, she is a happy artist!

Tina’s scenic paintings are mostly inspired by the beauty of Plumas County, where she enjoys hiking, kayaking, gardening, raising chickens and exploring with her family.
