Friday, March 19. We are excited to partner with Milk & Honey, 919 7th Street, Harlan, on this new reading adventure.

Silent reading will begin at 5:30 pm. Participants are encouraged to grab one of Milk & Honey's specialty drinks or a snack to munch on while enjoying their book. Reading will last for 45 minutes and then the last 15 minutes will be used to discuss what everyone is reading.

SPARK! is cultural programming designed for people in early to mid-stages of memory loss to attend with their family or care partners. Programs feature interactive exhibit experiences in a welcoming environment with trained individuals who engage participants in lively discussions, object handling, and other multi-sensory activities. Programs are free and open to the public. These events are sponsored by the Shelby County Health Foundations and the Shelby County Community Chest.

Shelby County ISU Extension and Outreach will host an Iowa Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vendor training on April 9 from 9 - 11 am. This training is required for fruit, vegetable, and honey producers interested in becoming certified vendors with Iowa FMNP. Attendance is free, but pre-registration is mandatory.

A Dutch oven class will be held on Thursday, April 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Nishna Bend Recreation Area Nature Center, 514 Maple Road, Harlan.  The cost of the class is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 5 to 9, and under 5 is free.  We will be making 8 different recipes and then eating them.  Preregistration is required and can be done by contacting Iowa Western Community College in Harlan at 712-755-3568.
