Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.
Island Stage Left re-opens to live audiences with Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, July 8-August 8 on the Wold Road outdoor stage! Actors from all over the US have come to Friday Harbor to make this a show to celebrate.
Shakespeare’s wittiest comedy takes place in a world emerging from wartime, eager for sunshine and laughter. But a series of sly tricks – some well-intentioned, some thoroughly vicious – throw this little world into doubt and confusion. Who can you trust? Your lover, your friend, your brother? Sophisticated aristocrats, or a dim-witted constable and his poor-but-honest assistants? By the time Shakespeare finally unmasks all the plots, we’ve laughed a lot but we’re a touch more thoughtful, too.
Director Helen Machin-Smith sets the story at an English country estate, during the summer of 1919. The costumes, music and manners of that era give special zest to this tale of trust and suspicion at work in human hearts.

Sway Wild featuring Mandy Fer & Dave McGraw
Internationally acclaimed indie folk-rock duo Mandy Fer and Dave McGraw are back at it with a new sound, and a new name: Sway Wild! Their exceptional vocal harmonies, coupled with Fer’s pioneering electric guitar work, have become a vehicle to carry them around the world, sharing stages with the likes of Iron & Wine, Lake Street Dive, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Mandolin Orange. Sway Wild’s infectious sound explores the corners of rock, pop, funk, prog, worldbeat, and folk, but at its nucleus it is undeniably a music full of joy. It can squeeze the heart in your chest, it can draw tears from your eyes, and it can force you to get up and move your body; over and over, it somehow manages to do all three at once.
Sway Wild very much looks forward to performing two special hometown shows on San Juan Island July 31st and August 1st at the County Fairgrounds to celebrate their post-quarantine return to the stage.
