There will be 3 exciting and informative presentations during the event. The keynote speaker is Dr. Holly Shill. Holly A. Shill, MD, is the Director of Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center and Movement Disorder Program at Barrow Neurological Institute, Dignity Health, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She also has a position as Research Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology, University of Arizona College of Medicine- Phoenix.

Dr. Shill received her medical degree from the University of Arizona, College of Medicine. She completed her internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Internal Medicine. Dr. Shill completed her residency in neurology and a fellowship in movement disorders at Barrow Neurological Institute. She then served as a clinical fellow at the National Institutes of Health, studying movement disorders. She has received numerous awards over the years including becoming a National Merit Scholar and being invited into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society.

Dr. Shill’s research interests include risk factors for the development and progression of Parkinson’s disease, the pathogenesis of Essential Tremor and innovative treatments for both Parkinson’s and Essential Tremor.

Additional expert speakers include Heather Mulder, the Outreach Program Manager from the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and Brenda Holt from AARP.

While at the Caregiver Connect event, family caregivers can get their pressing questions answered and collect free resources from many of our community senior care providers. A Benevilla C.A.R.E.S. Resource Specialist will also be on-site for anyone needing one-on-one support.

There will be over 45 local senior services providers on hand to supply critical caregiver information to attendees. They also offer expert advice and direction on a myriad of topics including senior living options, home care choices, insurance alternatives, elder law and help with government programs.

Benevilla has been helping family caregivers since 1981 when they started their very first crisis counseling service. “The Benevilla founders were aware family caregivers were bearing a heavy burden when caring for their loved ones while trying to keep themselves healthy” says Benevilla President and CEO, Joanne Thomson. “Today, 30 to 60% of caregivers pass away from illnesses related to caregiver stress before the person they are caring for. That’s why getting family caregivers support and information is crucial for our aging communities and their families.”

Reservations are required. Please call 623-584-4999 to reserve your space today. There will be a complimentary breakfast hosted by Birt’s Bistro.

Caring for your parents, Education for the Family Caregiver

Prevent Senior Hospitalizations: Caring for your parents: Education for the Family Caregiver

Whether an older adult is going into the hospital for the first time or is facing re-admission, a hospital stay can be bad news.

Medical experts agree that seniors who go into the hospital often don’t go home the same, or they don’t go home at all. Many factors can keep older adults from staying healthy during peak flu season or at times of the year when they are simply not taking good care of themselves.

This workshop will help you:

• Discover steps for a successful transition to home
• Learn the risk factors for hospitalization
• Understand the five important ways to keep seniors out of the hospital
• Share resources that can help keep seniors safe and healthy at home
