Announcing New Chef Michael Kelley at Fairfield Golf & Country Club & Business Hours

The Fairfield Golf & Country Club, founded in 1892 and recognized as the First Golf Club West of the Mississippi, announces the hiring of Chef Michael Kelley.
Chef Kelley joins the clubs’ Head of House - Natalie Elseman, along with other staff and the full board of directors in providing outstanding service for members and the community. Dining at the club is open to the public during noon hours Tuesday thru Friday, and to members in the evening Tuesday thru Saturday beginning in October.  A new Fall and Winter Menu will be coming soon.

Chef Kelley grew up in Waterloo and served twenty years in the army (1990-2010), jumping out of airplanes across Europe, Korea, Iraq and Texas. It was 1994 in Italy that he fell in love with food and vowed to return to that as his career. After leaving the service, he attended Culinary School at Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids. Kelley was involved with purchasing and receiving, and became a banquet cook for up to 600 people. From 2015-17 he worked in fine dining at “The Class Act” in the position of Chef de Cuisine, and also cooked Southern food at “Saloon” in Iowa City. His most recent position was as an executive chef for fraternities through “Greek House Chefs” in Iowa City.

Chef Kelley lives with his wife, Dione - a pastry chef for four years, in Keota, Iowa.  He has a son & daughter and two step sons, along with 4 grandchildren.  This past summer Kelley and his wife worked part time at the FG&CC.

“I’m excited to be in Fairfield at the FG&CC. After this summer I decided I’d like to be a part of making the food and service here a place that stands out, and be proud of. I’d like to prepare what local Iowa wants and do it really well” states Chef Michael Kelley.
