| 3/2/2024 | 14th Annual International Women's Day Celebration International Women's Day (IWD) is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. Spurred on by the universal female suffrage movement, IWD originated from labor movements in North America and Europe during the early 20th century. The earliest version reported was a "Women's Day" organized by the Socialist Party of America in New York City on February 28, 1909. IWD became a mainstream global holiday following its adoption by the United Nations in 1977. For the past 14 years, Pikes Peak Zonta has hosted IWD in Colorado Springs creating a beautiful celebration event at an affordable price creating inclusion for as many as possible. It will provide a showcase for students who have the performing arts talents they hone on a regular basis, reviewed by professional judges. Contestants will gain practical experience, receive valuable feedback on individual performance and compete for $5.250 in cash prizes. Individuals and groups may participate in Song & Dance, Drama, Vocal, Instrumental, A Cappella group, Musical Theater, Jazz and both Classical and Modern music disciplines.
