Ryne Doughty, is a folk-roots musician out of Southeast IA whose music is deeply rooted in real life stories of love, loss, work, & play. His stripped down, earthy sound, is directly influenced by the small, rural town he was born & raised in; the hard-working, simple living, friendly way of life of the Midwest. Understated, yet complex & rich with beauty and realness.

Playing behind his third studio album, “Under the Willow Tree”, Doughty turns heads wherever he plays with solid finger-style guitar picking, and a rich baritone voice; a dynamic of warmth and richness. Passionate and full of energy, his songs are of the real, hard working, everyday people that make this beautiful world go around.

He's bringing some buddies! This trio is a MUST GO! $5 cover

Burning Bright, a group of Decorah-area professional and amateur musicians, will offer their annual benefit concert, this year entitled “Keeping Faith.” Two performances will be held Saturday, December 21, at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 302 W. Broadway in Decorah.

Burning Bright is a group of community members from a variety of backgrounds, who come together to celebrate the winter season. The winter solstice marks the hours in which our darkness will give way to light, and the ensemble’s hope is that this concert offers you familiar solace.  Along with the adult choir, the concert will feature other small vocal ensembles and various instruments, both as accompaniment and as stand-alone groups.

Each year the musicians donate concert proceeds to various nonprofit organizations.  Beneficiaries of this year’s concert are the Decorah Community Food Pantry; Neighbors Helping Neighbors, which is dedicated to assisting immigrants and their families in rebuilding their lives following an immigration-related crisis; Northeast Iowa Peace and Justice Center, a local organization whose mission is to create local initiatives to promote peace, human rights, social and environmental justice; ArtHaus, Decorah’s personal home for the arts; Winneshiek County Celebration of Life, which is a community effort to raise money for campus awareness and prevention; and Barefoot College, a woman-centered, global network dedicated to sustainable development in every community where poverty exists.

Tickets for both performances are now on sale at the Oneota Community Co-op (312 W. Water St.). Tickets may also be available at the door, but advance purchase is recommended as performances often sell out.  Suggested donation is $15/adult, with an $8 minimum.
