Experience nature in a hands-on way this summer as your youngster explores our natural world! Camp features nature exploration, hiking, games, crafts, and other hands on activities for youth who are 4 and 5 years old. Included in the camp fee of $35 are a snack and t-shirt. Camp will be limited to ten participants. Registration opens April 1st.

Mark your calendars for the 2020 Blast Off Golf Tournaments! The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to have Iowa State Bank as the Presenting Sponsor for both the Women’s and Men’s Blast Off Golf Tournaments! The Women’s and Men’s Blast Off Golf Tournaments will take place on Friday, (Date to be Determined). Registration will begin at 7:30am with Tee-Off to follow an hour later at 8:30am. The Women’s Tournament will be held at the Walton Club while the Men play at the Fairfield Golf and Country Club. There will be a Silent Auction at both locations, lasting all day.

This contest is all-ages (Kindergarten to adults), and there is no entry-fee to participate. The deadline to submit art with the entry form is Wednesday, June 10th. The art will be judged by blind-voting by visitors who come through the house during American Gothic Days, and the winner will be announced no later than the end of the day of Monday, June 10th.

Fairfield Public Library’s How-To Tuesdays are back in a Zoom format! Interactive weekly sessions will replace the former monthly sessions. Employees aim to recruit talented local presenters to offer one 60-minute educational session per week—and you’re invited!

This week’s presenter is Stuart Valentine from the Sustainable Living Coaliation. Stuart will update everyone on the TerraCycle Fairfield Project and the Expanding Closed Loop Economy. (TerraCycle Fairfield specializes in recycling hard-to-recycle materials.)

Explore the great outdoors alongside your child! For this session of the monthly series we will be exploring what’s in the creek. We will be doing a short introduction before hiking through the creek. Please come dressed in water shoes or mud boots. This children’s nature program is geared for children who are 2-4 years old. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Toddler Time happens rain or shine, so be sure to dress for the weather!

Join us at the Jefferson County Fair this summer! Monday, June 22nd, through Monday, June 29th.

The Greater Jefferson County Fair started by action of the Jefferson County Agricultural Society, started a fair in Fairfield Iowa in the year of 1851. At this time it was decided to make this “Fair” an annual event. The Fair became an Official Fair by action of the committee in 1947.

A presentation titled Early Entrepreneurs of Fairfield will be led by the two major researchers for the upcoming local history film "Ahead of Their Time"; Research Director Lawrence Eyre, M.A. and Dick DeAngelis, director and producer of the Fairfield History Series. They have been gathering local and state resources to provide needed insight into Native American trading patterns, struggles between men and women of early medicine as well as stories of the early days of this areas' pioneers of industry.  
They will give a presentation of stories related to their research via live-stream Zoom presentation at 2 pm on Saturday, June 27, 2020. Projections of old pictures will be used to supplement the presentation.
