Program to be presented at Louis Latzer Memorial Public Library
April 25 at 6:30 p.m.
Gregor Saladin was born in 1956 and grew up - like Emil Frey - in Arlesheim. As the father of two grown-up sons, he lives in Bern, the capital of Switzerland. Saladin studied philosophy and German language and literature in Basel. He spent the first half of his working life as a journalist and the second half in communications for the Swiss Federal Administration. Since his retirement two years ago, he has been active in publishing. His main interest is in historical issues.  In November 2022, he published a biography on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Emil Frey's death.

Emil Frey spent decisive years of his life in Highland and fought in the American Civil War as a volunteer in the Illinois Infantry. After returning to Switzerland, he had a steep career in society, politics, and the military: from 1882 to 1888 he was Switzerland's ambassador to the United States, from 1891 to 1897 he was a member of the Swiss government, and in 1894 he was president of the Swiss Confederation.

Gregor Saladin also conducted research for the biography in the Louis Latzer Memorial Library. He looks forward to presenting some highlights of Emil Frey's life in Highland - his second home.
