Understanding the current challenges & gearing up for the future
In 2020, the Maltese economy suffered a significant economic shock because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The country’s fundamentals enabled a quick economic rebound, as high real GDP growth rates were recorded in 2021 and 2022. For 2023 the suite of available economic forecasts indicate that Malta’s growth momentum is likely to ease and thereafter stabilise. Meanwhile the unemployment rate is anticipated to remain at historic low levels, keeping the labour market tight. Against this background, inflation remains a main concern among households and businesses alike, especially if this will take long to slow down. Other questions relate to the fiscal sustainability of prolonged energy subsidies and the possible effects which the interest rate hikes by the European Central Bank will have on Malta.
Join us for this event where we will explore economic patterns, join the dots and participate in the discussions among leading panelists about the current standing of the Maltese economy where it should be aiming to go.
