Pirates Past Noon KIDS is an adaptation of the fourth of Mary Pope Osborne’s award-winning fantasy adventure books from the Magic Tree House book series, which has sold more than 100 million copies and is available in more than a hundred countries around the world. This time around, Jack and Annie’s tree house takes them to an exotic island with pirates, where the two discover the power of friendship and the simple pleasures in everyday life.

Magic Tree House:

The two siblings return to visit the magic tree house on a dreary, rainy day. They find a book where the sun is shining and the waves are crashing, so they wish to travel to this tropical place. They realize that they are in the eighteenth-century Caribbean, the time of pirates! The siblings meet Captain Bones, a mean old pirate who captures the two and forces them to help him find buried treasure. It’s up to Jack and Annie to find their way back to the tree house and make their way home.

Book by Jenny Laird and Will Osborne, Lyrics by Randy Courts and Will Osborne, Music by Randy Courts

Magic Tree House: Pirates Past Noon KIDS is presented through special arrangement with and all authorized materials are supplied by Music Theatre International (MTI), New York, NY

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!— this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou). Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

The Foundation wants to know if there is truly enough support in Plumas County for these sorts of performances. Assuming no other oddball circumstances arise, the dates for the 2023 Plumas Goes Pops Concert series have been set. Three concerts are planned throughout the spring and this is everyone’s chance to “cast a vote” as to whether these performances should be offered in the future. Individual concert tickets are $20 each, or you can purchase a season ticket for all three concerts for $50. Students with a current school ID can attend for only $10. Tickets can be purchased at the Fair Office, on the Fair website: www.plumas-sierracountyfair.net, or at the door. Student tickets can only be purchased at the Fair Office or at the door. Sponsorships are available as well, contact the Fair Office.

On Saturday, April 22 at 7 p.m., Plumas Goes Pops is happy to present “Draw Four”. This undergraduate saxophone quartet from the University of Nevada, Reno, has performed at Artown Reno and as a featured guest ensemble at the Nevada Music Educators Association Small Schools All-State conference in Elko, NV. This exciting ensemble includes majors in Music Education, Mathematics, Engineering, and Communications Studies and the musical genres they play are as varied as their academic pursuits. In addition to beloved classics and original compositions, Quincy audiences will be treated to jazz, folk, popular, and Broadway tunes, thanks to the versatile expressive range of the saxophone. Draw Four is coached by Dr. Aaron Hill and is comprised of Jacob Richetta on soprano sax, Devin Haverly on alto sax, Zach Hooker on tenor and Elizabeth Westerlin on baritone saxophone.

The National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Firewise USA Program encourages local solutions for safety by
involving homeowners in taking individual responsibility for preparing their homes from the risk of wildfire. Firewise
is a key component of Fire Adapted Communities or a collaborative approach that connects all those who play
a role in wildfire education, planning, and action with comprehensive resources to help reduce risk. To save lives and property from wildfire, NFPA's Firewise USA program teaches people how to adapt to living with wildfire and encourages neighbors to work together and take action now to prevent losses. For more details visit nfpa.org

Living is the story of an ordinary man, reduced by years of oppressive office routine to a shadow existence, who at the eleventh hour makes a supreme effort to turn his dull life into something wonderful. Overwhelmed at work and lonely at home, a civil servant's life takes a heartbreaking turn when a medical diagnosis tells him his time is short. Influenced by a local decadent and a vibrant woman, he continues to search for meaning until a simple revelation gives him a purpose to create a legacy for the next generation. From the opening footage of 1950s London to the closing credits this is a simply exquisite film. Bill Nighy is perfect in the lead role of the senior civil servant who is forced to confront his own mortality and Amy Lou Wood and Alex Sharp provide fine support at the other end of the age spectrum. Whilst the storyline is undoubtedly a little sad the film leaves the viewer appreciative of what's really important in life.
