The College of Veterinary Medicine at Midwestern’s Glendale Campus at 59th Avenue and Utopia Road will host an open house on Saturday, October 27, 2017 from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Everyone from pet owners to ranchers to aspiring veterinarians are welcome to attend with their families to see the future of animal healthcare in Arizona. Expert faculty and veterinary students will be on hand to answer questions and showcase the College’s veterinary clinics and facilities. Inspired by a “dinner in white”, which began in Paris 30 years ago, the 3rd annual Noche en Blanco on Saturday, October 27, is Hance Park Conservancy’s signature fundraiser to benefit the Margaret T. Hance Park in downtown Phoenix. The evening is a celebration of cultural diversity in the community and guests are encouraged to arrive dressed in all-white creative cocktail attire while dancing under the stars among live entertainment. There will also be options to reserve a picnic dinner, bottle of wine and drinks from a pop-up bar. 

This year’s entertainment will include Ernest Garcia’s “DJ Phoenix”, Kenny G’s Project Band, Brazilian dancers, raffle prizes, games for kids in the children’s play area, the popular Emcee and Master of Ceremonies, Oscar de la Salas and a few more surprises. 

All of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Hance Park Conservancy, a nonprofit dedicated to the future of Hance Park.

GENERAL
The Glendale Chamber Military & Veterans Affairs Committee will host a very special flag-raising ceremony on Sat. Nov. 10, 2018 in Thunderbird Conservation Park in Glendale 22600 N 59th Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85310.

The community is invited to participate in a human chain to carry (hand-over-hand) the flag to the newly installed flag pole at Arrowhead Point, where it will be permanently displayed as a point of pride for residents and visitors alike. This event coincides with Veterans Day weekend, and pays tribute to those who have served and are serving in the US Armed Services.

TIME
Event registration begins at 7:00 a.m., with the ascension of the US Flag up the trail beginning at 9:00 a.m. (See full event schedule)

PRICE
This event is free and open to the public. Donations are being accepted to assist the Glendale Chamber Military & Veterans Affairs Committee provide future flag and flagpole maintenance and to help fund this event.

REGISTRATION/CHECK-IN
Due to the patriotic nature of this event and the expected number of participants, pre-registration is required to ensure that an official bib and number are reserved for you. The earlier you arrive on the day of the event, the higher position you will have on the mountain. Walk-up participants are welcome and may register the day of the event, but will not be guaranteed a participant bib and number. Participants may keep the bib as a memento of the event.
 
Two Registration Check-in stations will be open at 7:00 a.m.:
1. Ramada #1 inside main Thunderbird Park entrance off 59th Avenue
2. The Ramadas near Lot M located at 5500 Pinnacle Peak Road

Participants must check in upon arrival to receive further instructions. The event is free and open to the public.

FLAG ASCENSION/HAND-OVER-HAND
The US Flag will begin ascending hand-over-hand by event participants and community volunteers at 9:00 a.m. Anyone wishing to participate in this historic event should plan to arrive at the park between 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. to check-in and receive further instructions. The vision is to create a human chain up the trail and have each person hand the flag to the person next to them from the base of the trail to Arrowhead Point. Spotters will be placed along the trail to guide participants to their position on the mountain.

TRAIL INFORMATION
Please remain on trails and in designated areas only. We need to respect the fact that this is a conservation park. 
Arrowhead Point Loop (where the flag pole is located) is a hiking trail approx. 1.5 miles long and is classified “Moderate Difficult”.  Hikers should recognize their abilities based on the trail rating guide. For more info on the park itself, rules, and guidelines please visit:

PARKING
Event parking is available at public parking lots inside Thunderbird Conservation Park, with the closest parking locations in Lots A-G accessible from 59th Avenue (Main Entrance), as well as the Pinnacle Peak Lot M. Parking attendants inside the main entrance will guide participants to ease traffic flow. Early arrival is recommended. Parking for trail users who are not participating in the event is recommended in Lot K off 67th Avenue/Patrick Lane.

UBER/LYFT DROP-OFFs:
The parking lot located at 5500 Pinnacle Peak (Parking lot M) has been designated as a Uber/Lyft drop off point for those who may choose this mode of transportation
.   

PICNIC
The Glendale Chamber Military & Veteran Affairs Committee invites you to attend a community picnic at Ramada #6 near the park main entrance at the conclusion of the Flag Raising ceremony.

DONATIONS
Donations for the ongoing maintenance of the US Flag atop Thunderbird are accepted and will continue to be accepted after the event. 

TRAIL USAGE AND CLOSURE
Thunderbird Conservation Park is open to the public during this event. For safety purposes, portions of Arrowhead Point Trail may be closed during this special event, from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Other trails will be open for use. Arrowhead Point may be restricted for safety and conservation during certain times of the event. Parking for trail users who are not participating in the event is recommended in Lot K off 67th Avenue.

VOLUNTEER
The Glendale Chamber Military & Veteran Affairs Committee welcomes volunteers. Please email hshapiro@glendaleazchamber.org to sign up as a Thunderbird Flag volunteer.

HYDRATION
Please bring water with you as you would on any hike, and stay hydrated. Water stations will be available.

RESTROOMS
Restrooms are available inside the main entrance of the park. There are no restrooms on the trail.

FOOD
A community picnic is planned immediately after the flag raising ceremony and the community is invited to participate.

TRASH
Plenty of trash receptacles will be located in the park. PLEASE do not discard any trash along the trail or in the park, and help keep this beautiful park clean. No glass is allowed at Thunderbird Conservation Park. 

MISC
  • There is little to no shade on the trail, and participants should consider wearing brimmed hats.
  • Please show your support and patriotism by wearing red, white and blue!
  • Keep your hands free while passing the flag.
  • Bring your cell phone, but please do not hold onto your phone while it is your turn to pass the flag - ask a person downhill from you to take a picture for you. The flag cannot be slowed down for pictures. It must reach the top of the flag pole at 10:00 to be in sync with the F-16 & F-35 flyover.
  • Bring a camera, but please keep your hands free while passing the flag. Pictures of the event will be made available on the Glendale Chamber website.

You are cordially invited to attend the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), Arizona Chapter's 3rd Annual Arizona Fallen Officer Memorial Golf Tournament that takes place on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 at the Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park. This special event remembers our fallen heroes while supporting the survivors they left behind. Each year, between 140 and 160 officers are killed in the line of duty and their families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss.  C.O.P.S. provides resources to help them rebuild their shattered lives. There is no membership fee to join C.O.P.S., for the price paid is already too high. C.O.P.S. was organized in 1984 with 110 individual members. Today C.O.P.S. membership is over 47,000 survivors. Proceeds from the tournament support C.O.P.S. programs for survivors include the National Police Survivors' Conference held each May during National Police Week, scholarships, peer-support at the national, state, and local levels, "C.O.P.S. Kids" counseling reimbursement program, the "C.O.P.S. Kids" Summer Camp, "C.O.P.S. Teens" Outward Bound experience for young adults, special retreats for family members and co-workers. C.O.P.S. Arizona is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. On behalf of C.O.P.S. Arizona, we thank you for your consideration and support to our fallen heroes and their families.

The two-hour sessions, starting at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm respectively, are interactive presentations that deal with saving the two most at-risk feline populations: neonatal kittens and community cats. From care and fostering of orphaned kittens to safely and humanely trapping stray cats, Ms. Shaw will cover a variety of informative topics that will enable community members to become compassionate advocates for feline health and safety.

ASU's West campus hosts the Native American Heritage Festival featuring the 18th Annual Veterans Day Weekend Traditional Pow Wow to celebrate Native American heritage and honor the contributions of all U.S. veterans. 

Free admission and free parking. This event is open to all. Join us! 

• 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. — Festival begins with Gourd Dancing
• 1 p.m. — Pow Wow Grand Entry, Fletcher Lawn
• 1–5 p.m. — Pow Wow dancing and music continues

This event features live music from cover band "Rock Lobster" as well as surprise appearances from a national recording artist and Vegas Headliner. Guests will also experience dinner, a costume contest and silent and live auctions. Best of all, proceeds from this event will go to select youth charities of Chandler and the East Valley. Join the Arizona's Children Association to help raise money for the local nonprofit's "strengthening families" fund. Dancing for Arizona's Children will feature over 14 community leaders paired with professional dancers competing to fundraise for the organization’s foster care, adoption, kinship, family education and support services. Arizona's Children Association provides a variety of programs to meet the needs of 40,000 children, youth and families each year.

The event will take place on Saturday, December 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Scottsdale Resort and Spa. Adult tickets are $125 and youth tickets are $75.
