The Bay School and Hands Across Mathews are excited to be hosting our sixth annual Empty Bowls event. The hand-made bowls are stacked on the shelves at the Bay School.
An incredible assortment of hand-made soups, breads, and cookies will be served during the event. Familiar potters and chefs will be joined by some new hands, both novice and expert.
This is a ticketed event. Tickets may be reserved on the Bay School website or purchased at the Bay School starting Thanksgiving weekend. All proceeds go directly to Hands Across Mathews, so cash or check only, please. Your $15 ticket gives you a hand-crafted bowl to be treasured or given as a gift; a simple lunch of soup and bread, to nourish you and remind you of all the empty bowls in the world; and the warm fuzzy feeling of having helped fill your neighbors’ empty bowls here in Mathews. We will sell as many tickets as we have bowls. Extra soup may be purchased for $5 a serving, and additional donations are of course welcome and appreciated.

Singer/Songwriters Jason Cale and Karl Werne will be performing their latest compositions.
Jason Cale is a singer/songwriter and guitarist from South Mississippi. After traveling the world performing all styles of music, he’s made his home in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia where he regularly performs with The Jason Cale Band (Contemporary Blues Fusion), PC&J (Acoustic duo), and RaJazz (R&B, jazz). When he’s not performing music, you’ll find him in his studio where he enjoys writing, recording, and producing all styles of music.
Karl Werne started out entertaining the Hampton Roads area of Virginia when he was 16. In 1995, Karl teamed up with saxophonist, Eddie Williams. Now playing acoustic guitar, this new creative exploration of improvisation would shape a unique sound later complimented by some of the area’s finest musicians, including electric guitarist Curtis Eley, TR3 drummer Dan Martier, jazz professor John Toomey on piano and Scott Slay from Big Virginia Sky on mandolin, to name a few. Karl had the unique honor of writing the anthem/theme song for NASA’s Centennial Celebration, in 2017, and performed it at four separate NASA events, once with the Air Force Heritage Band.
Bring in 2020 with the best party yet! Good food, good music, and good company at the Flat Iron Crossroads 2020 New Year’s party. Featuring The Jason Cale Band.
The Jason Cale Band perform their own style of contemporary blues fusion along with a healthy helping of New Orleans funk. ALL members have been influenced over their lifetimes by numerous styles of music and this clearly shines through with the music they write and create on stage. Every show is unique, fun, and entertaining for all types of audiences.
On the menu for the evening is either prime rib, or salmon along with a potato dish, vegetables, salad, rolls, and dessert. Each couple will also receive a bottle of wine of their choice. Cash bar
