Jack's back! Join us as we welcome Jack Lasseter, well known local orator and historian, as he shares the epic story of the Buffalo soldiers out West, Black troopers in the U.S. Army after the Civil War, and their contribution during the Indian Wars.
Although we did not see them in the Western movies of our youth, they composed fully 10% of the entire U.S. Army and 20% of the cavalry in that Western army. Their story is a fascinating story, much of which occurs here in the Southwest, here in Arizona. It is a truly stirring story of American patriots that we should never forget.
Your ticket includes admission to the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and Museum, light refreshments and lecture. Although, this isn’t your typical "lecture"- free from Powerpoint, sit back relax and enjoy a story that takes you back in time.

Through vivid storytelling and historical insight, you'll learn the challenges, discoveries, and enduring legacies of early seafaring along this storied coastline.
Set in the storied landscape of southern Arizona, the documentary “Munguía Rancher – San Pedro River Valley” explores the enduring legacy of mestizo families who shaped the region’s ranching heritage along the San Pedro River. The film centers on Don Tomás Munguía, a 19th-century rancher whose lineage traces back to Tubac soldier Juan Manuel Ortega who was honored at the Tubac Presidio in 2018 by the Sons of the American Revolution and buried beneath St. Ann’s Church. Presented by Monica Dunbar Smith, descendant of both Munguía and Ortega.
