Super Smash Bros Tournament Friday, January 3rd at 2:30p.m. at Jessie Mays Community Center. The first 32 people to sign up are guaranteed a spot to play so arrive early! Watching and cheering people on is also encouraged. We’ll have a 2nd game area for free play or if we have enough interest, a 2nd tournament! Tournament winners will receive a $10 e-giftcard. Discovery Days: Homeschool & Community Gathering Monday, the first Monday of the month at 1:00p.m. in the library. Join us on the first Monday of each month for Discovery Days! This fun and social meet-up offers homeschool students the chance to connect, learn, and explore with peers from both homeschool and non-homeschool backgrounds. For November we'll be discovering LEGOS! Each gathering features interactive activities and opportunities to make new friends. All are welcome! Haitian Soup Joumou Brunch!!
Soup joumou is a savory, squash-based dish with noodles, carrots, cabbage, various other vegetables, and fresh herbs and spices. Haitians around the world consume soup joumou as a way to commemorate Haitian Independence Day. On January 1, 1804, Haitians declared independence from French colonial rule following the Revolution that began in 1791.
Soup joumou is a symbol of freedom and unity, as it represents the coming together of different ingredients. It gets its unique taste from each household and regional spin that each chef adds to it. It is a cherished dish in Haitian culture and is often served to family and friends on special occasions.
