Presenters: Dr. Derrick Span, Professor of Sociology,
Dr. Sandra Rath, Professor of Communication Studies,
Dr. Joe Faykosh, Professor of History

This workshop will discuss, deconstruct, analyze, and assess the Love in the works of Jesus of Nazareth, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. This rare and unique dialogue will seek to position and interpret love from historical, communication, ethical, and sociological perspectives. How was love utilized in the lives of iconic figures in history? Was love used as a virtuous condition of the mind and soul to transform the individual, or a brilliant strategy for forging social justice over against human oppression? Participants will understand the love ethic in history as communication of the ideal soul force or simply self/best-interest.

The AJ Wellness Partnership in collaboration with CAC, Pinal County Schools, Pinal County Substance Abuse Coalitions, Social Service and Faith Based Leaders launched the Youth Empowerment Partners this past August 2017 to discuss and establish a youth driven, adult guided program to engage a positive response to the controversial Netflix program “13 Reasons Why” along with other related issues. The Youth Matters Forum, a free event, invites up to 100 young people to address critical issues facing youth today including: Bullying, Domestic Violence, Substance Abuse and Mental Health concerns as well as other adverse childhood experiences. Meet and hear from other young people and experts in the field to exchange ideas and devise strategies in an effort to help address these challenging issues. Learn more about how you can be part of the Youth Empowerment Partners and upcoming events scheduled for later this year that support Positive Youth Development.
