The Altru Family YMCA has planned a three day Fitness Center Grand Re-opening to showcase recent improvements in the fitness areas.

Community residents are invited to stop in and take a tour or utilize the facility by attending an exercise class, exercising in the fitness center, or using the swimming pool, gyms, walking track, or racquetball courts.

The fitness areas were recently re-designed to accommodate our expansion of program offerings. Along with our extensive group fitness classes, we are now able to offer: a dedicated plate loaded strength area; more space for additional strength training and stretching; room for new strength and cardio equipment; and enhanced program space for special programs such as Rock Steady Boxing, general boxing and self defense classes. We have recently added several new pieces of wheelchair accessible equipment to the main level along with several other items, with new improvements being made daily, making the fitness areas accessible to people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels.

The Altru Family YMCA will host its 8th annual Winter Indoor Triathlon on Saturday, March 9, 2019.

Participants will swim, bike and run in the comfort of the indoors. The event kicks off at 9:00 am with the first wave of 5 people: starting with a 15 minute swim in the YMCA pool, followed by a 20 minute indoor cycling session and a 20 minute run or walk on the indoor track or a treadmill. Waves will start every 25 minutes. Laps will be counted in all events and later tallied with a percentage conversion to determine the top finishers.

Novice and experienced competitors are encouraged to participate. Swimmers can use any swimming stroke or they can use a kick board or water walk. Cyclists and runners/walkers can go at their own optimal pace. The event is open to all ages (youth must be physically mature enough to complete all three events).

All participants will receive a t-shirt and participation medal. Top finisher prizes for women and men will be awarded.
