Mitigation Presentation: Restaurants and Executive Order Number 56
11/16/2020
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Event Description
The Marion Chamber of Commerce Legislative Affairs Committee would like to invite you to a presentation about Restaurants, Executive Order Number 56, and potential legal consequences on Monday, November 16 at 2 pm.  Please register below to receive an email with Event info and your ZOOM login information.

Program Description:
With the issuance of Executive Order Number 56, restaurants in Southern Illinois face new restrictions that could significantly impact how they operate. Additionally, numerous lawsuits have been filed related to this order and similar executive orders, leading to confusion over the current state of the law on this issue. Restaurants and other businesses also face the prospect of an increase in lawsuits related to exposure to and contraction of COVID-19.

To help restaurants through this extremely challenging time, this presentation will focus on Executive Order Number 56, including the legal arguments being made for and against the order, the potential impact of recent court rulings related to the order, and the current status of legal challenges to the order. The presentation also will address issues restaurants should consider when determining whether to allow in-person dining. This includes possible OSHA standards that might apply to COVID-19, types of lawsuits that could be filed against restaurants and other businesses by people that contract COVID-19, and whether insurance would provide coverage for such lawsuits.
