Assay Office Tours Everyday same time!

Ever wonder how they got the gold out of the mountain? Visit the Assay Office to learn more!

 

3 – 4pm
Creek Adventures JR Rangers +

Come and explore Jamison creek! See what wondrous creatures inhabit this riparian habitat and

learn about aquatic insects! Wear sun protection and shoes you can get wet. Meet at the large

bridge in the campground.

Saturday Aug 13th

10 a.m.
SPECIAL EVENT - Hike to Gold Discovery Site!

Hike to Plumas Eureka’s Original Gold Discovery Site. Join us in this moderate hike (300 ft elevation gain, some steep areas and rocks) to learn about the natural and cultural history of the area. Meet at the museum at 10 a.m. OR up at Eureka Lake at 10:30 a.m. Total hiking time is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

8-9 pm
Campfire! – Birds to Know and Love

Learn about local birds and how to I.D. them through a presentation. Come learn about these

amazing animals and see some specimens from our collections! Meet at the amphitheater near . site #70.

Sunday Aug 14th

9 – 2pm

11 – 12
Historic Moriarty House Tours

Learn about the life of a Johnsville family during the hard rock mining days through a tour

of this historic home. Meet outside the museum. Space is limited. Sign up in the museum!

3 - 4pm
Jamison Mine History Tour

Learn about the history of the Jamison Mine, and see the old mining buildings near Jamison

Creek. Come learn about the cultural and natural history of this beautiful place. Meet at the

Jamison Mine trailhead.
 

Monday Aug 15th

9 – 2pm

10 – 3
Wood shop Demos (Depending on volunteer availability)

Stop by the historic wood shop next to the blacksmith shop. Guests will learn about the

tools used during the gold rush and can even use the tools!.. Kids are welcome.

11 – 2
Assay Office Tours

Ever wonder how they got the gold out of the mountain? Visit the Assay Office and learn

about the art of fire assaying. This process requires that mineral samples be changed

from solid to a molten state to determine the amount and purity of precious metals.
