Event Description
The Willamette Angel Conference- Why Angel Investing Rocks

Katherine Cleland, entrepreneur, angel investor, and marketing consultant will present a comprehensive talk about Angel investing and how your business can benefit. Angel money creates momentum out of possibility for the small businesses and entrepreneurs they fund. Importantly, according to research, Angel investing, done well, also provides good returns for the investors.

Angel investors, or simply "angels," are high-net-worth individuals who provide money for start-up firms with growth potential. Often former entrepreneurs themselves, angels can bring value to new firms through mentoring and industry connections as well.

Angel investing was long done in an informal, isolated fashion but is now becoming more systematic and organized in a quest for higher quality. Angel investing is the process and action of qualified investors making money available to start up businesses in early phases, often before they qualify for bank loans or venture capital.

In Oregon, Angel investors often get started by pooling their funds with other Angel investors; investing in groups via a business plan competition format. Angel Oregon, Bend Venture Conference and the Willamette Angel Conference follow this model. The Willamette Angel Conference is an annual Angel investing conference now in its third year, scheduled for May 2011. The WAC has provided critical funding to two local start-ups, Centerspace Software of Corvallis and Good Clean Love of Eugene.

Katherine Cleland is an entrepreneur, angel investor, and marketing consultant in Corvallis. She is a founder of Choice Solar Corporation, a start up currently funded by Angel investors.
