The series will expand on the topics of the original workshop and offer a more in-depth examination of the topics that will help develop new supervisors and managers while offering a refresher to others.

On Sunday, May 7 at 2 pm, the Museum of Danish America, 2212 Washington, Street, Elk Horn, will present the Victor Borge Legacy Award Piano Competition and recital series. All winners will perform a recital on the Victor Borge piano at the museum.

The competition is held in conjunction with the South West Iowa Music Teachers Association, the Omaha Music Teachers Association, the Des Moines Piano Festival, and the Museum of Danish America.

This year, the Chamber's annual golf outing will take place on Friday, May 19 at the Harlan Golf & Country Club. This tournament is a 4 Person Scramble - 9 Hole Tournament. Check in 4 - 5 pm, Putting Contest 5:15 pm, Tee off 5:30 pm. $50 per person, $200 per team. Cart rental is $30 per cart. Entry fee includes golf, flag/door prizes, and a light dinner.

We are still looking for sponsors and prize donations. Sponsorships: Tee/Green: $50; Sidewalk: $25.

Help fill the canoes between the hours of 9 am – 3 pm at Harlan Hy-Vee and Fareway for West Central Community Action Shelby County Food Pantry. Any items are appreciated, but especially needed: canned fruits, Tuna/Hamburger Helper and other boxed meals, pork n’ beans, pancake mix and syrup, pasta and rice sides, Pop Tarts, apple sauce cups (for school backpacks), chicken noodle soups, and tomato soups.

Come to the Shelby County Fairgrounds on Friday, May 26 and plant your own container garden of tomatoes and peppers. Master Gardeners will be outside of the fair office from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. to assist with planting and answer any questions.
Master Gardeners and ISU Extension and Outreach Shelby County are offering the container gardens at no charge.

At 11 am we will be serving a picnic lunch with hotdogs, chips, cookie, & a drink.

We will also have Summer Library Packets available for Kids of all ages as well as Adults. Lots of great activities planned for everyone.
Harlan Community Library Summer t-shirts will also be available in May for the public to purchase. They will be available to pickup on May 31st at our kickoff event. Stay tuned for more details!
