Join us for our summer STEAM Camp for grades L-1 at NICC Cresco Center from 8-11:30am (#91893) on Thursday, July 6th to start creating — this is where computers meet art! Work with Root, the robot that draws on the whiteboard. Create a creature and animate it, and design and build a wind cart to carry the creature's stash. Your K-1st graders will also create art using electric tape and batteries. During the camp, slow motion cameras will even capture a light show created with mini-Sphero robots. Plan on an action-packed session where your creativity rocks!

During the school year we meet at Crestwood High School and during the summer we meet at the Cresco Chamber either in person or via zoom.

This program is administered through the Natural Resources team within ISU Extension and Outreach – Agriculture and Natural Resources. The project coordinator and county extension offices collaborate to plan offerings of the program, and a local organizing committee is responsible for planning field visits and classroom discussions that are paired with structured online lessons completed before attending.

Todd Stephenson, a Certified NRA Instructor with 35 years of firearms experience, will be holding a LADIES-ONLY MINNESOTA AND IOWA Concealed Carry class on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at the Cresco Wildlife Club on the Howard County Fairgrounds in Cresco.  This class is one of the MOST COMPLETE Minnesota and Iowa concealed carry training programs offered.

Check in will begin at 8:30 AM, and class will begin promptly at 9:00 AM.  Class should conclude between 6:00 and 7:00 PM.  You must be 20 years of age or older the day of the class to receive a certificate (certificates may only be redeemed on or after your 21st birthday and are only valid for one year).  Students will be required to qualify using firearms and ammunition provided by the instructor.  Eye and hearing protection will also be provided.  There is NO written test.

The fee for this class is $125.00 – you may bring your driver's license and pre-register in person at Outdoors & More, Inc. in Cresco during normal business hours OR you may show up the day of class to register.   Advance reservations are suggested as seats are limited.  When your class fee is paid, you will be provided with a one-year Single membership to the Cresco Wildlife Club.  If you are already a member of the Wildlife Club, you will be provided with a one-year single membership extension.  Upgrades to FAMILY memberships are available for an additional $5.00.

Please call Todd Stephenson at (641) 257-9345 for more information or visit Outdoors & More at 115 3rd Ave. West (behind Billmyer Furniture) in Cresco to reserve your seat.  Walk-ins the day of class will be accepted if seats are available, but the class size is limited, so I encourage you to reserve your seat early.

Wednesday, July 19th is the online class Cool Cows (and Calves): Managing Heat Stress from an Animal Welfare Perspective from 12pm - 1:15pm. Register online.

Dr. Jennifer Van Os will discuss heat stress in dairy cows and calves from an animal welfare perspective, including recognizing how cattle tell us they need help beating the heat. She will share some of the latest research coming out of UW-Madison.
