Come celebrate 41 years of the Mountain Arts Festival in beautiful Woodland Park, where stunning views of Pikes Peak set the perfect backdrop for a day of art, music, and good food. Up to 100 local and regional artists will be on hand showing and selling their original work — a great opportunity to find something truly one-of-a-kind.

Only 18 miles up US 24 from Colorado Springs, Woodland Park is an easy escape from the summer heat — with temperatures running a cool 10 degrees lower. Bring the whole family, grab a bite from our food vendors, enjoy live music, and let the kids burn off some energy on the park's awesome playground.

In celebration of America's 250th, Colorado's 150th and the Ute Pass Historical Society's 50th birthdays, UPHS and the City of Woodland Park are teaming to provide a vintage baseball game (1800s style). The Colorado Vintage Baseball Association will square off against our own local first responders. In addition to the game, there will be food trucks, a simulated gunfight and more fun activities celebrating our history as a western mountain town. We will have special games and attractions for kids (children under 16 get in FREE if accompanied by an adult).

Gates open at 10:00 AM. and the first pitch will be hurled at 11:00 AM.

8:30-10:30 p.m. At Visitor Center Parking Lot

Join volunteer astronomers from the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society to see the night sky in a whole new way. Get up close and personal with stars, planets, galaxies and more via a variety of telescopes. Keep your night vision in tact and be respectful of others by bringing a red light flashlight and keeping your headlights on low when entering or leaving the parking lot.

Learn how to fly fish and how it’s different from other styles like bait fishing, trolling, and spinning. Use your new or seasoned skills to try to catch a fish at one of Mueller’s favorite ponds. Bring a camp chair and water. Best for ages 10 and older. Equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis. 21 spots available.

Take in beautiful views of the west side of Pikes Peak on this 2 mile hike. Along the way hear about how Pikes Peak was formed, the people who’ve climbed it over history and how it became America’s mountain.

Learn how to fly fish and how it’s different from other styles like bait fishing, trolling, and spinning. Use your new or seasoned skills to try to catch a fish at one of Mueller’s favorite ponds. 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Meet at Lost Pond Trailhead

Do you know what a Ponderosa Pine smells like? Have you ever noticed the color of your hand after touching an aspen tree? Use your sense of sight, touch, hearing and smell to connect to nature in new ways on this 1 mile hike. 

8:15-9:15 p.m. Meet at Outlook Ridge Trailhead

Watch the night sky unfold with the Full Moon rising in the east. Learn how to find the north star, constellations and fun facts about the cosmos. Easy 1-mile round trip hike. Dress for cool weather. Bring a headlamp.

9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Meet at Wapiti Trailhead

Explore aquatic areas in the park including Brook, Rock and Geer Ponds on this 5 mile moderate hike including 900ft of elevation change.

Lichens are everywhere, but they are experts at playing hide-and-seek. They look like crust on a tree or rock, but are actually tiny living worlds hiding right in front of your eyes. Come take a closer look and see what secrets they’re keeping on this 1 mile hike.

2:00 pm - 3:00  p.m. Meet at Camper Services

How do you prepare for a hike? What should you pack? What do you do if you get lost? Learn survival skills everyone can use. This program is geared towards kids and their guardians, but all are welcome. Ages 5 and up.

8-9 p.m. Meet at the Amphitheater

How well do you know this beautiful state? Take a guess, learn something new and win a small prize.

9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Meet at the Visitor Center

Unwind & immerse in nature’s joy & wonder through the healing practice of Forest Bathing/shinrin yoku. Join Forest Therapy Guide Jane for this peaceful 1.5 mile walk to to quiet the mind, open the senses and connect with the land. Closing gratitude circle with tea brewed from local plants. Min. age 12 recommended. Pre-register online at cpw.state.co.us/events.

Discover what animals live in the park and how to identify them with their tracks and scat (poo!). This program is geared towards ages 5-12, but all are welcome.

Listen to stories from the perspective of plants and animals to learn how all living things are connected to the night sky and how you can protect them.

10-11:15 a.m. Meet at Rock Pond Trailhead

Use yoga based standing movements among trees, plants, animals, earth and sky to build strength and resilience in our bodies and minds. There is a short hike to the location. Please dress in comfortable clothes that you can move in and wear sturdy lightweight walking shoes. Bring a water bottle. All levels of fitness are welcome. No equipment needed. Participants must be able to walk independently on uneven surfaces. 

1-3 p.m. Meet at Outlook Ridge Trailhead

Take time to notice the small details that make nature beautiful. Join us for a slow one-mile hike followed by a bracelet-making activity based on what in nature inspires you.

9:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Meet at Grouse Mountain Trailhead 

Get in some distance with this roughly 6.5 mile hike. See the many habitats in the park like forests, meadows and valleys as you pass the historic Cheesman Ranch. End with a short climb to the highest point in the park to enjoy beautiful views.

Share about your favorite stories you’ve read on this two mile guided hike through the forest. Bring an audio book with headphones, a paper book or just your thoughts. There will be time to sit and chat about your books at a scenic overlook.

Test your skills or try a new one at this beginner archery class. All supplies are provided, simply come with your listening ears and a good attitude. All ages are welcome; bows have a draw weight of 6-20lbs. A nerf bow station will be available for those unable to pull back the bow string. Some adaptable equipment is available. Call for more details.

9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Meet at Rock Pond Trail

Discover beautiful water features at the park. You will see 4 ponds in the park along with plants and animals that enjoy being near water. This is a 5 mile moderate hike led by volunteer naturalist, Rose.

10-11 a.m. Meet in front of the Visitor Center

Explore the park's wilderness and wildlife, earn a Junior Ranger badge and collect a bear keychain. Come prepared to spend time outside. Children and their grown ups should attend together.

Migrating birds are passing through Mueller for the annual flight south. Joe LaFleur, local bird expert and author of the “Mountain Birds of Teller County”,  will be our special guest guide. 1-mile slow-paced walk.

10:00-11:00 a.m. Meet at Visitor Center

Come spend time with Joe LaFleur, wildlife biologist and local author of “Mountain Birds of Teller County” as he teaches how to identify common breeding birds of the park by sight and sound.

1-3 p.m. Meet at the Visitor Center Auditorium

Create a necklace inspired by Indigenous cultures while learning about the practice of beadwork.
