Tibbits Classic Film Series will present a double feature of Classic Romantic Comedies, with showings of His Girl Friday and Sabrina.

No tickets are needed for this event. Admission to the classic film series is FREE; donations are accepted. Concessions including a cash bar will be available for purchase at our Ghost Light Bar. The theatre will open 30 minutes prior to showtime with concessions and seating beginning at that time as well.

His Girl Friday, 1940 – PG, 1hr 32m (begins at 4pm)
Having returned to New York from a four-month hiatus, The Morning Post’s star reporter, Hildy Johnson (Roseiland Russell) marches into the office of her boss and ex-husband Walter Burns (Cary Grant) to announce she is quitting. Determined not to lose his best reporter, Walter hatches a plan to bait Hildy with what could not only be the biggest case of her career but also the biggest case the Big Apple has seen in years.

Sabrina, 1954 – PG, 1hr 53m (begins around 5:45pm)
Sabrina Fairchild (Audrey Hepburn) returns from a two-year stay in Paris to find she has caught the eye of her lifelong crush, wealthy playboy David (William Holden). While flattered by the attention, Sabrina finds herself more attracted to David’s straight-laced brother Linus (Humphrey Bogart), who is in return falling in love with her.

Lori and Dave convince their friends to try a new dating website, “Friends, Love or Whatever”. With the worst dating advice in the world from their friends, Cheryl and Stan set out to find happiness and true love, online.

From bold abstract or landscape paintings, to beautiful desaturated photographs, to a variety of sculptures and subjects, Arts Alive invites artists of all ages and skill levels to submit their interpretations of “Black & White” in their upcoming themed gallery show which will be displayed at Tibbits Opera House January through March.

WHAT: Enter up to 3 pieces at $5 per piece. Pieces must be ready to hang (PLEASE use a hanging wire (due to the nature of our new system which uses large hooks, small nail holes or little tooth hangers on the back of frames DO NOT WORK)). Sculptures and all other mediums accepted.

Best of Show/People’s Choice Award given to top artists. You may also sell your work if you want (on commission). Please do not submit artwork that contains nudity. Arts Alive has the right to refuse entries.

WHERE: The week or two prior to the deadline, you may drop artwork off at the Tibbits Admin Offices at 93 W Chicago between 9am-5pm M-F. Please have all artwork dropped off by 5pm on Monday, January 23. The show will hang until March 13 in the Tibbits Art Gallery in the lower level of the historic Tibbits Opera House.

Millionaire Lionel Twain invites five of the most brilliant private eyes to his mansion with an odd request. At midnight there will be a murder and he will give one million dollars to the one who can solve it. Then he disappears. Before long, a problem arises: The butler is found dead, and it’s long before midnight. Will the five most brilliant deductive minds of their time be able to see through the elaborate set-up staged by a criminal mastermind? This Neil Simon classic sports an all-star cast such as acting greats Peter Falk, Alec Guiness, Peter Sellers, Eileen Brennan, David Niven, and James Cromwell.

Drowning Mona, 2000 – PG-13, 1hr 36m (begins around 5:45pm)

When the car of Mona Dearly (Bette Midler), the most hated woman in Verplanck, New York, is sabotaged, resulting in her death, everyone in this eccentric small town becomes a suspect. The film also stars Danny Devito, Jamie Lee Curtis, Neve Campbell, Casey Affleck, and Will Ferrell.

The annual meeting of the Tibbits Opera Foundation & Arts Council, Inc. will review the historic theatre’s 2021-2022 fiscal year at 5:30pm Thursday, January 26, 2023.

The annual meeting will offer members and the community a chance to meet the board of directors and staff over refreshments before the meeting highlights the activities, events and financials of the theatre’s fiscal year which ended Sept. 30. As a nonprofit organization and according to its bylaws, Tibbits must hold a general meeting of its membership each year. The purpose of the meeting is to present an annual report and elect members to the board of directors.

The meeting will be held in the theatre and open to the public.

Tickets are available to Tibbits members at all levels on Monday, December 12, 2022 and will be available to the general public on December, 19, 2022. Tickets for this event range from $29-$52 including fees ($48+fees premium, $45+fees orchestra/lower balcony, $25+fees for upper balcony with member discounts available). Doors will open and seating for this event will begin 30 minutes prior to showtime.

Based in the NYC area, Beginnings formed in 2002 as a musical tribute to the super-group Chicago and regularly performs for highly enthusiastic and loyal audiences all over the United States. Beginnings performs accurate versions of Chicago’s classic chart-smashing hits (and even a few rare gems) from across their fifty-plus year songbook, including “You’re the Inspiration,” “Saturday in the Park,” and “25 or 6 to 4.”

Fueled by world-class musicianship and a passion for performance, the band is a live music experience not to be missed. The group’s love of the music, their fans, and each other makes for an outstanding and electrifying show every time. This family-friendly live entertainment event is pleasing to music lovers of all ages, guaranteed to “Make You Smile”!
